Residents invited to share stories about Barrington

Posted

Rhode Island PBS has selected Barrington as the next community to be featured in its “Our Town” documentary series, inviting residents to share their stories about the town.

The project, which doubles as a community-building initiative, documentary, and fundraising effort, encourages locals, business owners, organizations, and schools to become volunteer filmmakers and storytellers.

“Our Town: Barrington,” the 19th installment in the series, aims to showcase the town’s history, unique traditions, and personal stories. Rhode Island PBS hopes to unearth Barrington’s hidden gems and share untold stories that define the community’s character.

To get involved, interested residents can attend an informational Zoom meeting on Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. This meeting will outline the production process, provide an opportunity to contribute ideas, and explain the timeline for submissions. Local business owners are also encouraged to attend and explore sponsorship opportunities. Participation is open to all, regardless of experience, and there is no cost to be involved.

For those without filming equipment, Rhode Island PBS will offer equipment loans by appointment. The station will provide technical support throughout the project, ensuring that even novice filmmakers have the tools and guidance they need to capture their stories. The final product, edited by Rhode Island PBS, will premiere in May 2025 on broadcast and digital platforms.

For more information or to participate, residents can contact Project Director Jodi Mesollela at (401) 222-3636 ext. 209, or Project Producer Ross Lippman at ext. 413. Interested businesses can reach out to Kristen Haffenreffer at ext. 339 for sponsorship opportunities.
