The country’s largest-ever pumpkin may not have been unveiled in Warren on Saturday — that honor went to Scott Andrusz of Williamsville, N.Y., who presented a 2,554-pound monster on Oct. 1 at a New York festival — but the Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off at Frerichs Farm was big on attendance, joy, and gargantuan gourds nonetheless.

Rhode Island’s renowned grower Ron Wallace won the crown this year, the 21st year that the contest has been hosted by Frerichs Farm, with a 2,201-pound pumpkin. Twenty-eight growers in total submitted entries, ranging from Wallace’s whopper to a 169-pounder from first-time grower, James Warcup.

Hundreds of families enjoyed the festivities, which included a slate of food trucks organized by PVD Food Trucks Events, thematic play structures, pumpkin painting, pumpkin racing, and of course, the crowd favorite pumpkin drop.
