A man was struck and killed on Willett Avenue in Barrington on Thursday morning, March 21.
Barrington Police said the victim is 78-year-old Riverside resident Richard Stolorow. Police have not identified the motorist involved.
Police said Stolorow was struck in the travel lane of Willett Avenue at about 7:15 a.m. on Thursday — he was in the lane closest to the intersection with Richmond Avenue. Police said it was not clear if the victim was trying to cross Willett Avenue toward the Walgreens shopping plaza or if he had stumbled into Willett Avenue by mistake when a vehicle traveling east on Willett struck him.
Police said EMTs responded to the scene right away and transported Stolorow to a hospital. The medical examiner’s office contacted Barrington Police on Sunday morning, March 24, to inform them that Stolorow had passed away.
Police said there is no crosswalk where the accident occurred. The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and was very cooperative with the investigation, police said.
As of Monday morning, March 25, the driver had not been charged. Police said the accident is still under investigation. Also, Cranston Police and the Rhode Island State Police are assisting with the investigation.
Barrington had not experienced a pedestrian fatality in more than 60 years, prior to the accident last week.
