Portsmouth boy had ‘egg-citing’ time on White House lawn

PORTSMOUTH — It’s not every day you get to play on the White House lawn, but a local 6-year-old recently did just that.

Nathan Kearns, a first-grader at St. Philomena School, got to participate in the 2024 White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 1. A colorful installation of Easter eggs appears at the White House annually, and this year the eggs on display were created by children who have a parent serving in the military.

Nathan’s father, Nate, serves in the Air National Guard, so he jumped at the opportunity to send in his creative and colorful design, which was selected out of all the entries from Rhode Island. An artist took Nathan’s design and recreated it on an actual egg for display at the White House this Easter season.

To celebrate, members of the Kearns family were invited down to D.C. to participate in the egg roll before getting a private tour of the White House the following day to view Nathan’s winning egg on display.

“It gave a whole new meaning to the ‘golden egg’ and we were so grateful to celebrate Nathan’s accomplishment,” said his mom. Christine Kearns.
