PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School indoor boys’ track squad took third place as a team in Class B during Saturday’s Class Championships at Providence Career & Technical Academy.

The girls’ team came in sixth place in the Medium Division at the same meet.

The Patriots boasted two first-place winners: sophomore Aidan Chen conquered the boys’ high jump with a best effort of 6 feet even, while the girls’ 4x200-meter relay team of freshmen Emily DeConto and Sonia Staroscik and seniors Poppy Jelley and Elly Skeels won in their class with a time of 1 minute, 51.27 seconds.

Besides Chen’s win in the long jump, here are some other standout performances from the boys:

• The 4x200-meter relay team of Nate DeConto, Jackson Fox, Lukas Huffman, and Nick Spaner came in second in Class B with a time of 1:37.68, making All Class status.

• The 4x400-meter relay team of Oliver Tibbetts, Fox, Nikolai Loyola, and Chen came in third in a time of 3:40.44, making All Class status and moving up to fifth position in the statewide rankings.

• The 4x800-meter relay team of Jae Defalco, Chris Vachon, Kevin Sullivan, and Wake Zani took third with a time of 9:09.38, also earning All Class status.

• Nick Spaner took third place in the 300-meter dash (37.53 seconds) and fifth place in the 55-meter dash (6.96 seconds). He set personal bests in both, as he did with his leg of the 4x200 relay.

• Sean Gray, a freshman, came in third place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:29.82. Head coach Shaun Horgan said Gray’s time beat the freshman record set in 2017 by Ben Chase, who now runs track and cross-country at Merrimack College as a junior.

• Will Kitzmiller, a sophomore, took fourth place in the long jump with a best leap of 20 feet, 2.25 inches.

• Landon Rodrigues came in fifth place in both the 55-meter hurdles (8.32 seconds) and the long jump (20 feet and a quarter inch).

• Nikolai Loyola took fifth in the high jump with a best effort of 5 feet, 8 inches.

Girls’ results

Besides the girls’ winning 4x200-meter relay team, some other notable performances from Saturday included:

• The 4x800-meter relay team of Alexandra Cousineau, Kyra Siebens, Hanalei Streuli, and Katie Yalanis came in third place with a time of 10:55.44.

• Allie Kaull took fourth in the 3,000-meter run, posting a time of 11:18.48.

• Elly Skeels came in fifth in both the 55-meter dash (7.9 seconds) and 300-meter dash (44.82 seconds).

• Sophie Mulligan came in sixth in the long jump with a best leap of 14 feet 2 inches.

• The 4x400-meter relay team of Poppy Jelley, Sophie Mulligan, Katie Yalanis, and Hanalei Streuli came in sixth with a time of 4:40.96.
