The gray of winter will soon be replaced with the green of spring.
That means Barrington residents may want to start thinking about registering for a plot in the community garden.
The Barrington Community Garden is located off the Wampanoag Trail, just over the town line with East Providence. It offers 60 plots, each one is 5-feet, by 20-feet. There is a community herb garden for lessees to snip and use the herbs as needed, a pergola for shade, organic compost for soil enrichment, and water supplied through a solar-operated pump.
Officials with the Barrington Community Garden will hold plot registration from March 1 to 15 for those who leased a plot in 2020. For newcomers, the registration period runs March 16 to 31. Registration packets can be found on the website, www.barringtoncommunitygarden.org.
Last year was a banner year for the Barrington Community Garden — there was a record number of new residents leasing a plot.
“We're hoping for the same this year and that all 60 plots can be leased to Barrington residents,” added Bonnie Grassie-Hughes of the Barrington Community Garden.
Plots are available to lease for $25 during the 2021 season. Payment must be made by check imprinted with a Barrington address. Completed forms and payment can be dropped off at Barrington Town Hall or mailed to Barrington Community Garden, c/o Cyndee Fuller, Barrington Town Hall, 283 County Road, Barrington, RI 02806.
