Replaces Trattoria Romana at Tiverton Casino Hotel

TIVERTON — A change of restaurants awaits visitors to the Tiverton Casino Hotel.

Arriving this week, and announced on the casino’s Facebook page, is the Casino Cafe & Grille.

“Now open at Tiverton Casino Hotel for lunch and dinner!” says the notice. “The Casino Café & Grille will serve a traditional American-casual style menu, with quality ingredients and the same top-notch service you've come to expect from us.”

The new restaurant takes the place of the upscale (and pricier) Trattoria Romana, an eatery owned by restaurateur Luciano Canova — his Torre Restaurant Group also owns restaurants by the same name in Johnston, Lincoln and Wakefield, as well as several Pizzeria Romanos and a Trattoria Express in Lincoln. He also operated the former Tuscan Chophouse at the Tiverton Casino.

Tiverton Casino spokeswoman Patti Doyle said Wednesday morning that the casino made “a change in the restaurant at the Twin River Tiverton Casino to more accurately reflect guest preferences and comments. The Casino Cafe and Grille will offer a wider selection of food - from a cup of soup and lighter fare to full dinners at a lower price point. The casino has taken over operation of the restaurant and it occupies the same space as the former Trattoria Romano.”

The change happened quickly — Trattoria Romano closed last Sunday and Casino Cafe & Grille opened on Monday.

On the new restaurant’s menu are items including, “Classic Sandwiches” that range from a Duo of RI Style Wieners ($10.99) to Traditional Lobster Roll (market price). There is also an assortment of club sandwiches, specialty grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers, soups and salads.

Entrees — “American Comfort Food” — include New England Style Baked Cod ($15.99), Yankee Pot Roast ($17.99), Spaghetti & Meatballs ($16.99), Ale Battered Fish & Chips ($15.99), Grilled New York Strip ($21.99), and Chicken & Waffles ($16.99), among others, all in a similar price range.
