Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: I am running because I believe a strong education system is essential for a healthy and prosperous community. My experiences volunteering in all levels of schools, my work in early childhood and parent education, and my work in the community with the Bristol Health Equity Zone, have prepared me to take on the challenge of school committee work. It is a challenging job, and one not to be undertaken lightly.

I want to improve the way families access Student Support Services. Families with children who need accommodations in order to be successful at school deserve a fully transparent process and whatever help they need to negotiate that process. It is important that we provide appropriate services for children as early as possible, to make sure they can reach their full potential.

Have worked for many years with young children, I have seen first-hand what the best interventions can do, and I intend to advocate for those who need it. I believe social-emotional learning is critically important. Data shows concerning increases in adolescent mental health issues - particularly depression and anxiety.

Incorporating social-emotional learning does not have to be a major shift and there is much we can do to improve our students’ mental health from kindergarten onwards. I’m excited for the opportunity to contribute to work already underway. I am ready to represent the families of our community, responsibly and with an open mind. I want to build trust, transparency and cooperation among district administration, teachers, students and families. Working together, we can offer our children the best education possible.
