Members of a two area Boy Scout groups dodged raindrops Saturday morning when they replaced nearly 1,000 worn flags on veterans' graves at the Pocasset Hill Cemetery in North Tiverton.
The scouts, from Pack and Troop 15 in Fall River, were asked by the Tiverton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5392 leaders to assist in the annual event. Volunteers from Tiverton Little League and American Veteran Nation also helped.
Charley Mulcahy, the Post 5392 commander, said he was glad to get the scouts' help, and also that they were able to get it done prior to Memorial Day. Last year, scouts were unable to raise the flags before the holiday as there were none to plant — donated every year by the state, they didn't arrive in VFW hands until a week or two after the holiday.
Though a gentle mist was falling when the scouts started arriving at 10 a.m., they were able to get the work before heavier rains showed up.
