On Thursday, Jan. 9, St. Mary’s Church held a Mass of Appreciation in honor of National Law Enforcement Day.

This was the church’s second annual celebration thanking and honoring law enforcement officers.  Father Barry Gamache called them “the peacemakers.” In his homily, Father Barry wanted them to know that, in reading the weekly police report, we all understand how difficult a job they have.  He extended to each and every one of them, not only the church’s prayers, but also its thanks for their availability at a moment’s notice.

Readers for the Mass were Town Administrator Steven Contente, Town Clerk Louis P. Cirillo, and Bristol Town Council Chairman Nathan Calouro. Also in attendance were members of the Bristol Town Council, state representatives, and members of the Bristol Fire Department.

The highlight of the evening was the closing remarks of Bristol Police Chief Kevin M. Lynch. Chief Lynch not only thanked St. Mary’s Church for having the Mass but also recognized the members of his department for their compassion, caring and professionalism in serving the town. Chief Lynch also thanked the spouses and children of the officers for their support.
