Tiverton will start looking into the development of a new public safety complex.

The town council voted Monday night to pass a resolution establishing a new 11-member committee that will look into whether a complex that houses the police and fire departments and provides public amenities to the community is feasible and appropriate. The committee will also look into what facilities should be housed within the complex, options for its size, suggestions on location, as well as other factors that must be considered for the creation of a state-of-the-art facility.

Membership will include town officials and five Tiverton community members, with preference given to those with experience in architecture, engineering and construction.

“We’ve gotten a tremendous amount of support and interest from the community,” Tiverton Police Chief Patrick Jones said. “These are public meetings and public input from anyone and everyone is going to be important in this project.”
