The Tiverton Majors Division All Star softball team defeated Barrington 8-0 in the District 2 Championship game on Monday, July 1, in Tiverton.

Tiverton scored twice in the first inning, but Barrington looked poised to score in the top of the second. Daylen Baillie hit a grounder to the right side of the infield and reached base on a throwing error. Baillie then stole second and third. Maddy Piazza reached on a liner toward third base and later stole second. With one out, Barrington looked to even the score, but Tiverton pitcher Lexi Fredericks settled down and struck out the next two Barrington batters to end the threat.

Tiverton extended its lead 3-0 in the bottom of the second and 4-0 with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Tiverton scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Fredericks threw a no-hitter for Tiverton, striking out 14 Barrington batters while allowing two walks.

Sarah Clegg pitched a complete game for Barrington. She struck out eight Tiverton batters, allowed 13 hits and walked three.

Tiverton advanced to the state tournament where it will face Cranston West Little League on July 8. The Majors Division State Tournament is being played at Davidson Field in Portsmouth.
