LITTLE COMPTON — Experts on the topic will lead a public tour next weekend of Little Compton woodlands hit by oak loss.
Staffers from the US Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District and RI Department of Environmental Management will tour a site impacted by oak tree loss and describe steps that land managers across the state are taking to deal with the problem.
They will also discuss federal funding opportunities available to property owners and will answer questions.
The tour will take place Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. starting at Simmons Mill Pond, 212 Cole Brook Road, Little Compton. The tour is free but participants are asked to RSVP by visiting easternriconservation.org or calling 401-934-0842.
It will be held rain or shine and may involve walking off-trail on uneven ground.
