The East Providence High School cross country teams competed in their respective 2023 Class A Championship Meets Saturday, Oct. 28, at Ponaganset High's Covered Bridge Trail.

Individually, Cumberland's Sam Henderson won the boys' race, covering the 3.1-mile layout in a time of 15 minutes, 53 seconds, but it was Hendricken which won the team title as the Hawks placed all five of their scoring runners inside the top 10 led by Will Olsen in third in 16:42. Henderson's Clippers teammate Connor Magill was second in 16:32.

Junior Will Anthony led the Townies, running 20th overall in a time of 18:23. Brayden Rouette was next in for EPHS, running 59th in 20:59. Deacon McShane was 61st in 21:04. Connor Cirello ran 63rd in 21:09. And Jason Brown was the fifth Townie scorer, finishing 64th in 21:13.

The Hawks won the record 33rd team title and second in a row with a total of 29 points. Cumberland was second with 39 and North Kingstown a distance third with 100. East Providence was 10th out of 12 teams with 277 points.

Junior Keaney Bayha won the girls' solo race in 18:43 with Classical's Grace Doyle second in 19:08 and LaSalle's Alyssa Parenteau third in 19:27.

Freshman Sadie Gagnon paced the EPHS girls, running 36th overall in a time of 25:08.45 followed immediately by mates Abigail Beatrice in 37th at 25:08.47 and Katelyn Patalano in 38th at 25:17. Caitlin Chong was 69th in 31:18. Alexandra Rajaratnam was the fifth Townie runner in 78th at 35:28.

LaSalle won the girls' team championship for the fourth time in the last five years, placing its top five runners among the first 18 finishers for 48 points. Reigning girls' champ Cumberland was second with 57 and NK third as well on the girls' side with 65 points. East Providence was eighth out of 10 teams with 213 points.
