Warren voters approved the commercial sale of recreational marijuana in the town on Tuesday, with 2,263 voting in approval, and 1,666 voting in opposition.
The vote will allow for commercial marijuana businesses to open up in Warren, but this does not mean a marijuana dispensary will open up any time soon.
Warren has also already banned smoking marijuna in public places (the first community in Rhode Island to do so), and has also initiated zoning measures to prevent any such business from opening up in its waterfront district, and within a certain range of any residential area.
