Westport graduated 85 high school seniors Saturday. The following are short biographies compiled for the top 10 grads, ranked by academic achievement.

Westport celebrates its top 10 graduates

Westport graduated 85 high school seniors Saturday. The following are short biographies compiled for the top 10 grads, ranked by academic achievement.

Madison Plourde

The Class of 2024 Valedictorian, Madison is the daughter of Thomas and Lori Plourde and will attend Quinnipiac University in the fall, majoring in nursing.  Madison has been a member of the Student Council, STEEL (Students That Exemplify Extraordinary Leadership), Medical Club, Pep Band and Newspaper Club. Madison is also a student athlete, playing volleyball and tennis throughout high school. Madison was awarded the Scholar Athlete Award at the annual Award and Scholarship Night, and was also awarded the AP English and Personal Finance awards. Madison is a member of the National Honor Society, and qualified for Biliteracy recognition in Spanish. She was also the recipient of the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and the Superintendent’s Award.  Madison earned several scholarships including the Sgt. Dan Sullivan Memorial Scholarship, Westport Lions Club, Southcoast Health Ambassadors, Potter Funeral Service Award  and the John Moniz Memorial Scholarship.  Madison was also a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Award for academic excellence.

Avery Carvalho

The Class of 2024 Salutatorian, Avery is the daughter of Brian and Nancy Carvalho. Avery will attend Boston College in the fall, majoring in finance and the pre-law track. She has been a member of the Student Council, STEEL (Students That Exemplify Extraordinary Leadership), Medical Club, Yearbook Club and has been the school’s representative at the Mass Star Conference. Avery is a varsity tennis player for Westport Middle High School and a competitive dancer outside of school.  At the annual Award and Scholarship night, Avery received departmental awards for AP US History, AP Psychology, AP Literature, Portuguese, and Personal Finance. Avery also received the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence along with the Presidential Award for Service. She was the school’s recipient of the Daughters of American Revolution Award and Scholarship. Avery qualified for biliteracy in Portuguese. Avery also received scholarships from the Westport Lions Club’s Harold S. Wood Scholarship, John Brown-Dartmouth Grange, Clube Madeirense S.S. Sacramento, Azorean Maritime. Domingos-Silva, Prima Care Scholarship

.Avery Avila

The student ranked third in the Class of 2024, Avery is the daughter of Shad and Melissa Avila. Avery will attend Quinnipiac University in the fall to major in biology, which will begin her career in medicine. She has played varsity field hockey since the seventh grade and plays in many different teams outside of school. She has been named a field hockey All Star for the Herald News and the Boston Globe, a Gold Medalist for the Bay State Games and has been a team captain, illustrating her willingness to lead by example.  Avery is also an avid golfer and has played for the junior PGA since 2018. Avery is a member of the Student Council, STEEL (Students That Exemplify Extraordinary Leadership), Medical Club, and has been a backstage manager for the Middle School’s drama productions. Avery was the recipient of the AP Statistics and AP Calculus awards, the Science Department Award along with qualifying for biliteracy in Spanish. Avery also received the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and the Presidential Award for Service. Avery received many scholarships at the Westport High School’s Award and Scholarship night. To name a few: Saint Anne’s Credit Union, Bay State Games, Hawthorn Medical, Southcoast Health Ambassadors, Club Madeirense SS Sacramento, John Brown-Dartmouth Grange  and many more. Avery was also a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for MCAS excellence.  

Korynne Holden

The fourth ranked student in the Class of 2024, Korynne is the daughter of Jeremy and Lisa Holden. Korynne will attend the University of Connecticut to major in biology/animal science, with the goal of becoming a doctor of veterinary medicine. Korynne has been a varsity athlete in girls’ soccer and basketball since the ninth grade. She was named Female Athlete of the Year at Westport Middle High School’s Athletic Award Night. She was team captain for both sports this year. Korynne has been the Eastern Massachusetts Girls’ Soccer Coaches Association Second Team All Star for soccer and a Mayflower All Star for basketball. She has coached basketball for kindergarten students and third and fourth graders. She has been a member of the International Exchange Club and was able to travel to Europe and Japan along with being a host family for Japanese students from Okinawa.  Korynne received the Principal’s Award, Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and qualified for biliteracy in Spanish and the John Moniz Memorial Scholarship at the annual Award and Scholarship night at Westport Middle High School.  Korynne was also a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for MCAS excellence.

Kaelyn Jones

The student ranked fifth in the Class of 2024, Kaelyn is the daughter of Christopher and Natalie Jones. She will attend the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and has been accepted into the prestigious Isenberg School of Business to major in business and dance. Kaelyn is dedicated to dance and has been dancing for more than 14 years. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Tennis, in which she was a captain, along with being her Dance Team’s Captain, and Yearbook Club. She was awarded the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, the English Honors Award and the Citizenship Award at the annual Award and Scholarship Night for Westport Middle High School. Kaelyn was also a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for MCAS excellence.

Savana Fantasia

Ranked sixth in the Class of 2024 for Westport Middle High School, Savana is the daughter of Sheila Fantasia Yerid and Ron Fantasia. Savana will attend the University of Rhode Island to major in Psychology with a goal of working as a child psychologist. Savana has played varsity Volleyball for Westport Middle High School since Grade 10. She has also been involved in gymnastics outside of school. Savana was a member of the National Honor Society, Medical Club, Yearbook Club and was a Big Buddy. She was also a host family for a Japanese student from Okinawa as a member of the International Exchange Program. Savana was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and qualified for biliteracy in Spanish along with the Southcoast Ambassadors Health Care, and Domingos Silva Scholarships. She was also the recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for MCAS excellence.

Meghan Molloy

The seventh ranked student in the Class of 2024, Meghan is the daughter of Kristine and David Molloy. Meghan will attend the University of Massachusetts-Amherst to major in Elementary Education. Meghan has been a member of the Student Council and was her Class President for three years. She has played Varsity Basketball for four years and has been a member of the Medical Club, and Africa Connections. She has been a member of the National Honor Society. Meghan was a recipient of the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, the Math Department Award, Personal Finance Award and Internship Award for her work as an intern at the Westport Elementary School. She also received an English Department Award for her work in Honors English. Meghan was the recipient of the Westport Education Foundation’s Teacher Scholarship, the Westport Athletic Boosters Scholarship and the Westport Lions Club Scholarship. She also received the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for MCAS excellence. 

Sarah Perry

Sarah Perry, the daughter of Brian and Chrstine Perry is the eighth ranked student in the Class of 2024. She will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall, majoring in Biology. Sarah played Varsity Soccer, Basketball and Softball. She was the recipient of the Joanne Charest Memorial Sportsmanship Award, and a member of the National Honor Society, Medical Club, STEEL (Students That Exemplify Extraordinary Leadership) and the International Exchange Club, through which she was able to travel to Greece, Japan and Europe. Sarah’s involvement in her school is admirable.  She was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, the Presidential Award for Academic Service along with the AP Biology Award and Personal Finance Award. Sarah was also a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship for MCAS excellence. She received the Westport Athletic Boosters Scholarship.

Hannah Therrien

Ranked ninth for the Class of 2024, Hannah is the daughter of Samantha and Scott Therrien.   Hannah will attend Quinnipiac University in the fall to major in Biology in the PA track. Hannah has been a member of the Varsity Volleyball team since the 10th grade and was the manager for the softball team for two years. She has also been a member of the Medical Club, International Exchange Club and was able to travel to Belize and Europe and STEEL (Students That Exemplify Extraordinary Leadership). Hannah was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence and qualified for biliteracy in Spanish at the annual Award and Scholarship evening. 

Hannah has been an intern for one of the school’s sub-separate classrooms and has had the opportunity to work with students with a myriad of special needs and she has excelled. Hannah was also a recipient of the John and Abigail Adams  Scholarship for MCAS excellence.

Alden Priestner

The 10th ranked student in the Class of 2024, Alden is the daughter of Paul and Tracy Priestner.  Alden will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall, majoring in professional writing. Alden was the Editor in Chief of the high school newspaper, a student body representative to the School Committee, a Big Buddy, peer tutor, an intern for the English department and a member of STEEL (Students That Exemplify Extraordinary Leadership). Alden has also been a member of the Drama Club. During the Westport Award and Scholarship Night, Alden was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, Presidential Award for Service and the AP Statistics Award. Alden also received many scholarships; to name a few, Manton Scholar, Maryada Award, Westport Lion’s Club-Chadwick Scholarship, Clube Madeirense SS Sarcamento, and the Scott MacDonald Scholarship.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
