A North Carolina man faces weapons and other charges after Westport police pulled him over early Wednesday morning.

Ian Ruml, no age given, of Newport, NC was pulled over at about 2 a.m. by Westport officer Ryan Williams, who police said saw Ruml’s red Subaru WRX swerving across the road and followed cars in front of it too closely.

Sgt. Jarrod Levesque arrived to assist, and Ruml was removed from the Subaru and placed into custody. During a search of the car, Sgt. Levesque found a gun holster in the back seat area, and police also recovered a 9mm high capacity Glock handgun fully loaded with 15 rounds, and ammunition.

Ruml told police during the search, “I don’t have a gun on my person.”

Ruml was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, second offense, carrying a loaded firearm while operating under the influence, possession of a high capacity firearm without a license, possession of a high capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition. He was cited for several motor vehicle violations.
