John G. Edwards V is the top vote-getter in the race for Tiverton Town Council, and will return for a third term on the non-partisan council after a two-year absence. The results from the Rhode Island Secretary of State are still unofficial.
With seven candidates for seven seats, the race was quieter this year than in the past several elections. All five incumbents — Michael Burk, Denise M. deMedeiros, Deborah Janick, Joseph Perry Jr. and Jay P. Edwards — were re-elected. They will be joined by Edwards and challenger Dennis J. Milbourne.
Edwards, 36, has lived in town for 32 years, and most recently served as chairman of the budget committee. He served on the town council from 2016 to 2018, then returned in 2019-20 for a partial term, replacing one of two incumbents voted out in a recall election.
