Almost six months after the Little Compton Town Council struck out in their initial search for bidders to repair the wellhead at Town Landing, the job is finally done.
Few changes were made to the century-old structure, whose revamp necessitated “historical sensitivity” but required a few new additions like copper roofing and trim made of a rice hull composite to protect from climate exposure.
Refurbishments were made from the ground up —StoneScapes redid the four stone pillars that support the well head’s top, Shapiro Carpentry was responsible for rebuilding the roof’s frame, and Metal Works Corp. installed the standing seam copper roof. Rob Marra, chairman of the Town Landing Committee, spearheaded the project with Little Compton Town Administrator Tony Teixeira and architect Melissa Hutchinson.
The reconstruction was finished in mid-June.
