'Love Wins' block party is Saturday in Little Compton

Love Wins Coastal will host its third annual Pride Block Party this coming Saturday, June 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Town Commons.

LGBTQ+ community members and their loved ones and allies are invited to celebrate and demonstrate community visibility and support. Music, food, crafts, informational tables and vendors will contribute to the free event.

Love Wins' Jenna Magnuski said that being visible, and visibly celebrated, has an extra layer of meaning for those who live, work and play in Little Compton, Westport and Tiverton. As one community member wrote, “I thought there were no LGBTQ+ people around here; that being queer was something one could only do ‘somewhere else ... I felt astonished to see affirmation in a place I never thought I’d get it.”

A DJ will provide music throughout the event, except for a brief speaking program at 2:30 p.m. Community groups such as PFLAG Greater Providence and the Westport GSA will offer connection and resources.

Family-friendly activities are free and include adding to a community paper “chain of positivity,” a selfie station with props, painting a rock to take home, decorating your own cupcake, and other crafts. Raffle tickets, caricature portrait tickets and Love Wins shirts and yard signs will be sold. Individuals and groups may volunteer for the Block Party.

To keep the event free, Love Wins Coastal relies on donations from sponsors, neighbors and allies. All donation amounts are accepted and are fully tax-deductible. For more, contact the leadership team at lovewinscoastal@gmail.com.
