Team work, defense keys to Tigers 14-6 quarterfinals win

Norris scores eight goals as Tigers crush Classical in D-4 quarterfinals

The Tiverton girls' lacrosse team beat Classical 14-6 during a Division-4 quarterfinals home game on Thursday afternoon. The 9-6 Tigers move on to play at Lincoln in the semifinals on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Head coach Mikella DaSilva said that team work, defense and the Tigers upperclassmen helped "flip the script" this season.
"We missed playoffs last season," she said. "Our team worked extremely hard this off season especially our upperclassmen. Our goalie Nick Brennan has done a tremendous job. He stepped into a difficult position and has been solid for us."
Brennan made eight saves between the pipes for the Tigers during the quarterfinals game and senior defenseman Addie Pimental made several key turnovers for the Tigers.
"Addie has been our defensive leader," Coach DaSilva said. "She has been our glue in the backfield.
Coach DaSilva said Pimental worked with inexperienced defenders Juniper Merkle, Kennedy Herfert and Brooklyn Correia and has made them an "absolute unit," keeping the Tigers goals against average under double digits for most of the season.

The Tiverton offense attack has also transformed this season. Leading goal scorer Emily Norris scored eight goals during the win over Classicial. Avery Craig scored three, Addaline Messenger scored two and Delinda Carvalho added one.
"Addie, Emily and Avery have made a tremendous impact on both sides of the ball this season" said Coach DaSilva.
If the Tigers win on Wednesday, they will play Saturday or Sunday in the final.
