Tigers are back in the D-3 championship

The first place division-champion Tigers took care of business slugging 15 hits in beating Rogers 14-9 during the winner's bracket final at Rhode Island College on Tuesday evening. Tiverton will play for the championship at RIC on Sunday at noon, agianst the loser's bracket winner.

The Tigers quickly picked up where they left off. after play was suspended due to rain late on Sunday night with Tiverton clinging to a 6-5 advantage after playing 3-2/3 innings.

Lia Doster finagled a two out walk to lead off the game in the bottom of the thrid inning on Tuesday. Brooke Sowa slugged a single and Sarah Poland walked to load the bases for clean up hitter Carly Martin, who bashed five homers this season. Martin feasted on a Lila Leys pitch and belted it deep to center field for a triple.  Doster, Sowa, Poland all came around to score. Martin rounded the bases and didn't hesitate to head home after the throw to third base bounded off the fielder's glove, to give Tiverton a 10-5 lead.  Leys finally got Luis to strike out to end the inning.

Lucy Stearns and Abby Gilfillen scored in the fourth and Poland and Luis scored in the fifth as the Tigers defense with Luis on the mound, played tight defensively.

Rogers broke for two runs in the fourth and two more in the seventh, but it was too little too late against the terrific Tigers.
