To the editor:
In recent days, many residents of Bristol and Warren received a piece of mail attacking congressional candidate Aaron Regunberg and Representative Susan Donovan by associating them with an incident that happened in a campaign in 2018. The creators of the mailer know that neither Regunberg nor Donovan were involved with the offense that the mailer refers to. They learned of it after I, in fact, discovered it and made it public.
The sponsor of the piece is a limited liability corporation located in a home in Newport. According to Federal Elections Commission records, the LLC was established on Aug. 23, just days before the mailer was sent out, apparently as a last-ditch attempt to hurt Mr. Regunberg’s campaign and undermine Rep. Donovan’s reputation in the community that she has served so well for decades as a teacher, community volunteer and elected official.
The voters of Bristol and Warren — no matter whom they supported in the race — know better than to be swayed by these unfounded insinuations and false claims.
These kinds of late-in-campaign tactics by the people unwilling to identify themselves are the worst kind of politics and have no place in public discourse in our communities.
