Letter: Responsible development in Warren is a topic again

To the editor:

Once again, the citizens of Warren are being called upon to protect the character of our community.

The developers of the proposed Settler’s Green project have appealed the Warren Planning Board’s unanimous decision to deny the application. Last November, the Board voted unanimously against a proposal that would place two four-story apartment buildings containing 108 units, more than 200 parking spaces, and two large stormwater drainage basins on just 12 acres within a quiet East Warren neighborhood.

This appeal means that the fight is not over.

Warren Citizens for Appropriate Development (WCAD) remains committed to supporting responsible growth while opposing development that is out of scale with Warren’s unique character, infrastructure, and neighborhoods. We believe development should enhance our community, not overwhelm it.

You can support our efforts by: Joining and following the WCAD Facebook page. Become a member at: warrencad.org. Sharing information with friends and neighbors. Contributing to our GoFundMe campaign, which can be found on our Facebook page.

The future of Warren depends on residents who are willing to get involved and make their voices heard.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
