Warren PD seeks input for accreditation process

Posted

A team of Assessors from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission (RIPAC) will arrive at the Warren Police Department on March 16, 2023 to examine all aspects of the agency’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.

Verification by the assessment team that the Warren Police Department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process by which this agency seeks recognition of professional excellence in law enforcement.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by telephone. The public is invited to contact the Assessment Team at (401)245-2469 on March 16, 2023 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with RIPAC standards. A Copy of the RIPAC Standards is available for review at the Warren Police Department. Questions concerning compliance with any of the standards may be directed to Deputy Chief David Annunziata at (401) 245-1311.

Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Warren Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are asked to write: RIPAC Executive Director, Christine Crocker at (401) 440-4352 or e-mail to crocker.riapc@cox.net.

Accreditation is for three (3) years, during which time the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those applicable standards under which they were accredited.

For more information regarding the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission (RIPAC) please contact Executive Director, Christine Crocker.

Lieutenant Christopher Perrault of the Warren Police Department explained in a statement that receiving the accreditation will ensure that the department is held accountable to its goal of higher standards for its officers and the department as a whole.

“The Warren Police Department has been in the process of becoming Accredited through the Rhode Island Accreditation Commission, otherwise known as R.I.P.A.C. The process includes commission members reviewing the policies, standards and procedures and the department facilities to ensure that they meet requirements of the Commission,” he wrote. “By trying to obtain this accreditation, it also provides the Warren Police Department a chance to reinforce its’ commitment to higher standards that the Town of Warren expects from their police department and officers. While the Warren Police Department has always encouraged feedback from the community, this specific invitation for comment can go directly to the assessment team assigned to the accreditation process.”
