On Monday, Oct. 10, the annual Barrington Day of Caring will celebrate five years of serving residents in need. 

In 2018, town and local civic leaders partnered together to organize the first Day of Caring, focusing on volunteer service projects for residents in need of assistance. Day of Caring is now an annual event taking place each October, drawing dozens of hard-working volunteers of all ages who contribute their time for the good of the community.

 With the help of grants from the Spencer Trust, Thrivent Financial, and other generous sponsors, this event has been able to serve more than 25 local projects sites and complete more than 100 individual projects. From yard cleanup to home repairs, volunteers are mobilized to work with residents of Barrington to provide much needed support and assistance. Along the way, relationships are built as volunteers work together-getting to know one another and the neighbors they serve.

In the first four years of the Day of Caring, more than 300 volunteers have been mobilized to work throughout our community to care for residents and public spaces.

A planning team, which includes: town employees, the BAY team, Bayside YMCA, and local houses of worship, works year-round to identify sites for caring, recruit volunteers, manage funding, and coordinate supplies.
