Barrington’s annual Financial Town Meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 24 inside the Barrington High School auditorium at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the public. 

Barrington taxpayers will have an opportunity to vote on the proposed budgets and any amendments that have been filed ahead of time or submitted at the FTM.

Anyone who wants to submit a proposed amendment of greater than $50,000 can do so until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17. Proposed amendments totaling less than $50,000 can be made at the meeting itself. 

As of Monday morning, May 15, one amendment had been filed with the Town Clerk’s office. Barrington resident TR Rimoshytus proposed the creation of a new line item in the capital reserve account dedicated to the reconstruction/maintenance of the natural grass recreation fields in Barrington. 

Rimoshytus also requested that the account be funded with $1.5 million. 

Proposed tax levy increase

The town is proposing a property tax levy increase of 3.3 percent this year — increasing the current $66.9 million budget to $69.1 million. Town officials estimate that the proposed tax levy increase would result in new tax rate of $20.19 (per $1,000 of assessed value). The current tax rate is $19.65.
