The two Independent candidates who ran together as a team resoundingly won the two available seats on the Barrington School Committee on Tuesday.

TJ Peck captured 4,459 votes (30.6 percent), while Frazier Bell was a close second with 4,328 votes (29.7 percent). 

The two Democratic candidates, Margaret Reid and Rudy Seber, finished third and fourth in the voting, respectively. Reid received 3,213 votes (22 percent) and Seber received 2,553 (17.5 percent).

“We’re just two dads who have been telling the truth,” Peck said shortly after the sixth and final precinct’s votes were reported on Tuesday night. 

“Our message didn’t change over time… “

Bell and Peck said they will form a new majority with current school committee member Patrick McCrann, a Democrat.  “We’re looking forward to working with Patrick,” Bell said.

Other members of the school committee are Democrats Amanda Regino Basse and Megan Douglas. Gina Bae and Erika Sevetson are stepping down. 

Peck and Bell said that while they were campaigning they learned quickly how people in Barrington feel like they are not being heard by the current school committee.  Bell said many teachers feel unheard by their own school committee.

“We are open to listening to everybody in Barrington,” Bell said. 

Peck said he and Bell are excited that they will have the opportunity to affect real change for the school district. “That’s the real reason I’m excited, the reason we raised our hands, that we can actually affect change for the school district, for our children," he said.
