Eight young men will earn their Eagle Rank during a special ceremony at Barrington High School on Memorial Day.

The new Eagle Scouts are Martin Agustin, Peter Birch, Terrence “Jamie” Boylan III, Lachlan Jackson, James Nowinski, Harrison Ogden, Colin Stabach and Eliot Wemple. Harry Mazurkie will also be recognized as a new Eagle Scout; Harry graduated from Barrington High School last year and will be unable to attend the ceremony on Memorial Day. The Eagle Scouts are all members of Troop 2 in Barrington. 

Following is some information about the new Eagle Scouts and the project they completed.

Martin Agustin

• Scout since 2011

• Favorite scouting memory: Hiking with my father on the last campout before I became an Eagle.

• Favorite merit badge: Plumbing

• Special badge/honor: Swimming

• Leadership positions: Assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, troop guide

• Eagle Scout project: Restored a section of headstones and removing brush intertwined in the fence line at Prince’s Hill Cemetery. 

Peter Birch

• Scout since 2010

• Favorite scouting memory: Attending Camp Yawgoog every summer

• Favorite scouting badge: Radio

• Special badges: Arrow of Light, Nova Science Badge, Brotherhood in order of the arrow

• Leadership positions: Assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader

• Eagle Scout project: Built a compost toilet for the McCoy Family Farm in Warren which provides organic produce to soup kitchens, shelters and food pantries in our area.

Terrence “Jamie” Boylan, III

• Scout since 2008

• Favorite scouting memory: Philmont Scout Ranch High Adventure Camp in New Mexico

• Favorite merit badge: Hiking

• Special badge/honor: Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor (the highest honor that the Order of the Arrow can bestow on you. Recognizes alertness to the needs of others.

• Leadership positions: Senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, junior assistant scoutmaster, Order of the Arrow representative and chief, assistant senior patrol leader, troop guide, and quartermaster for National Youth Leadership Training

• Eagle Scout project: Designed and constructed an earthen ramp that provides access from the parking lot of the Barrington Farm School to the fields at a lower elevation.

Lachlan Jackson

• Scout since 2015

• Favorite scouting memory: Philmont Scout Reservation

• Favorite merit badge: Pioneering

• Special badge/honor: none

• Leadership positions: Patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, quartermaster and troop guide

• Eagle Scout project: Renovated a shed for Barrington Farm School. The project included installing a new roof, making floor repairs, painting and installing a new door.

James Nowinski

• Scout since 2010

• Favorite scouting memory: Summit Bechtel Reserve High Adventure Camp in Glen Jean, WV

• Favorite scouting badge: First aid

• Special badges: Senior patrol leader

• Leadership positions: chaplain’s aid, senior patrol leader, outdoor ethics guide

• Eagle Scout project: Garden improvement for Barrington Christian Academy. This included improvement of existing beds, new beds built/installed, installing fence including gate.

Harrison Ogden

• Scout since 2015

• Favorite scouting memory: The high altitude trek at Philmont Scout Ranch High Adventure Camp in New Mexico

• Favorite merit badge: Metal work merit badge

• Special badge: National Youth Leadership Training with Leadership Development Goals complete. Order of the Arrow, Brotherhood.

• Leadership positions: Assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, den chief, senior patrol leader

• Eagle Scout project: Designing and constructing a hut for the attendants at Barrington Beach.

Colin Stabach

• Scout since 2013

• Favorite scouting memory: Spending time with all of my trek mates at Philmont Scout Ranch in NM 

• Favorite merit badge: Automotive repair 

• Special badge: National Youth Leadership Training

• Leadership positions: Troop instructor

• Eagle Scout project: Built a 16-foot wooden bridge which is being used to cross a small stream by pedestrians and bikers off of Vialls Drive.

Eliot Wemple

• Scout since 2011

• Favorite scouting memory: The high altitude trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in NM

• Favorite scouting badges: Archery, swimming and boating

• Special badges: BSA Life Guard, National Youth Leadership Training, Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, Arrow of Light and Religious Knot 

• Leadership positions: Den Chief (four years), assistant patrol leader, senior patrol leader, Troop Guide

• Eagle Scout project: Installed mesh at the base of the deer fencing surrounding the perimeter of the Barrington Community Garden as a means to deter rabbits and other small mammals from entering
