The Barrington High School girls volleyball team picked up 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-14, 25-16) over Pilgrim on Thursday, Sept. 21. 

The victory, coupled with two losses, moved Barrington’s record to 3-2 overall. 

In the win over Pilgrim, the Eagles’ Emma McCrann finished with four kills and five aces, and Rachel Freshman had two kills and five aces. 

Barrington dropped a 3-0 decision to East Providence on Sept. 19, losing 16-25, 21-25, 13-25. 

Also, the Eagles lost to Cumberland 3-1 last week. Barrington’s Ava Hentz played well with five kills and one block assist. Hailey Kuncz and Lindsay Molis each had seven kills for Cumberland.

Girls tennis

The Barrington High School girls tennis team defeated Moses Brown 4-3 and Smithfield 5-2 and improved to 2-1 overall. 

In the win over Moses Brown, Barrington’s number one singles player Ava Koczera-Kasem beat Adrianna Eaton 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. Barrington Coach Polly Danyla said Koczera-Kasem played very well in the match.

“I was so proud of her determination and stamina,” Danyla said.

Sadie Spector won her match at number three singles, defeating Ronia Dhillon, 7-6, 6-3, and Barrington’s number four singles player Charlotte Byon won her match after her opponent withdrew in the second set because of an injury. Byon had won the first set, 6-3. 

Barrington’s number one doubles team Zeynep Abul and Addy Friedman won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. 

“Great matches played by every team player. So proud of their hard work and toughness,” Danyla said.

Boys cross country

The Barrington High School boys cross country team shut out three opponents during a regular season meet last week. 

Barrington beat Moses Brown, Mt. Hope and Providence Country Day School, all by a score of 15-50. 

The Eagles dominated the competition — the first seven finishers were from Barrington. Myles Napolitano finished first overall with a time of 17:14. Eliot Lefort was second overall with a time of 17:50, and Connor Curran placed third with a time of 18:05. 

Michael Chun crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 18:11, Marius Bonard was fifth with a time of 18:20, and Daniel Chun was sixth at 18:22. Colby Napolitano placed seventh with a time of 18:32. Sam Bishop rounded out Barrington’s finishers in the top-10. Bishop finished 10th with a time of 18:52.
