Coach Ron Enos: ‘Our strength is on defense’

This year’s Barrington High School girls volleyball team is boasting a number of returners from last year.

Coach Ron Enos said this year’s team has eight returning players from last year’s varsity squad and six more players who moved up from the junior varsity team.

“Our strength is on defense,” Enos said. “We’re pretty scrappy and pursue the ball well. We also have a lot of energetic players with great work ethic so I expect steady improvement.”

Enos said his starters so far this season are Anne Gildea (senior), Hannah LeBlanc (junior), Nellie Peachier (senior), Kathryn Roskiewicz (senior), Kasey Dillon (junior), Beatrice Adamek (senior), and Morgan Martin (sophomore).

Barrington has opened the season with a 2-2 record. The Eagles notched wins over Juanita Sanchez 3-0 and Rogers High School 3-2. Barrington dropped the first two sets against Rogers but battled back for the victory (19-25, 27-28, 26-24, 27-25, 15-9).

“(The) offensive system is new to most of the players so we’re off to a slow start but we’ll keep at it,” Enos said.

“Last year we struggled. Only won three matches. Not much offensive production.”

Enos said this year’s team has a new set of goals — he wants to see a level of consistency on offense and defense which will allow the Eagles to compete for a playoff spot in the division.
