Two Barrington High School students finished in second place in the statewide National History Day competition held recently at Toll Gate High School.
BHS juniors Mia Biagetti and Sam Weiser created a 10-minute documentary film that featured the Scottish journalist Gareth Jones and his groundbreaking investigative journalism that exposed atrocities committed against Ukrainians by the Soviet Union in the 1930s.
Biagetti and Weiser have advanced to the national contest, which will be held in Washington D.C. in June.
On Saturday, April 1, the Barrington High School History Club submitted multiple entries to the statewide contest of the National History Day competition — this year's theme was "Frontiers in History.’’ Students prepared for weeks (and in some cases, months) for the competition.
In addition to Biagetti and Weiser, Barrington also had an exhibit from Justin Sholes, Jacqueline Sholes, Andrea Moran and Sofia Moran on the “Space Race.”
This was Barrington’s first year participating in National History Day.
