The building is for sale. The ice cream shop is not.

Residential Properties recently listed for sale the building at 230 County Road, which is widely known as the home to The Daily Scoop ice cream shop.

The mixed-use building — the business is located on the first floor while there is an apartment on the second floor — is for sale for $1.2 million.

A source told the Barrington Times that while the 2,444-square foot building is for sale, the ice cream business is not. It is not clear whether the business will close once the property sells or if it possibly relocate.

Owned and operated by Bob and Deb Saunders, the shop sells homemade ice cream, shakes, frozen yogurt, and ice cream cakes. The Daily Scoop opened more than 20 years ago.

The Barrington Times reached out to the business owners but has not heard back.

According to the listing on the Residential Properties website, the building at 230 County Road is “Ideally situated on a bustling high visibility main road, with plenty of parking plus direct access to the East Bay Bike Path and Barrington Shopping Center.”

The Daily Scoop currently offers window-service, but used to have an indoor seating area and a walk-up counter.

According to Residential Properties, the two-bedroom apartment features wood floors, a living room and dining area, a kitchen, and a full bath.

“There's 400 amp 3 phase electrical system and well maintained mechanicals throughout,” stated the Residential Properties website.

The building is located on a 10,086-square foot lot and is zoned “business.”
