The Barrington High School boys volleyball team improved to 12-1 last week.
The Eagles opened the week with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Lincoln on Monday, then crushed Toll Gate 3-0 on Tuesday, and finally out-lasted Division I Cranston East 3-2 on Friday.
Barrington Coach Christian Lambert said last Monday’s match against Lincoln provided a tough test for the Eagles.
“Both teams improved since first half and pushing toward the playoffs. Lincoln wanted to beat us,” Lambert said.
The Eagles persevered, winning 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-15, 15-12. Cam Kelley led the way for the Eagles — the junior had 14 kills, three aces and 11 digs. SangMin Park finished with 32 assists and 11 digs, and Maddox Godwin had 15 kills, three aces and nine digs.
On Tuesday, the Eagles hosted a struggling Toll Gate. The Eagles swept 3-0, with scores of 25-10, 25-11, 25-15.
James Ciummo served tough for the Eagles with seven aces, three kills and two blocks, while Park finished with 17 assists and moved even closer to that benchmark 1,000 assists in his career.
On Friday, the Division II Eagles hosted Division I Cranston East in a crossover. Lambert said the Eagles have been looking forward to this match all season and it showed in their play in the first set — the Eagles strong-armed the Bolts, 25-10.
But Cranston East rebounded quickly and won the next two sets, 23-25 and 24-26. In the fourth set, Barrington dug deep and won 25-18, and finished off the victory with a 15-5 win in the fifth set.
Ciummo had another big game with nine kills and five blocks, while Park tallied 43 more assists. The junior is now just 22 away from 1,000.
Lambert said the Eagles’ bench stepped up against Cranston East.
“I feel really confident in our bench and I know the team can trust them when we need a sub,” Lambert said.
Barrington has two big matches this week: Tuesday at third place Westerly and Thursday at first place Cranston West.
