Motorcycle strikes boulder on Barneyville Road

One person was killed in a late-night accident in Barrington on Thursday, Aug. 31.

Barrington Fire Department Captain Jason Fanion said a motorcyclist was traveling into Barrington on Barneyville Road at about 11:30 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a boulder and was ejected.

Fanion said the driver was thrown about 150 feet in the air, struck several trees and telephone pole wires before landing on the front lawn of a residence.

“The operator was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with life threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased upon arrival,” Fanion reported to the Barrington Times.

The victim’s name had not yet been released.

Fanion said the department received a 911 call at about 11:30 p.m. The caller said a “bicyclist” had been involved, but additional calls reported that it was a motorcycle operator.

Fanion said firefighters tried to resuscitate the victim at the scene.
