Series of farmers markets kicks off today in Barrington

Farmers markets take place at St. John's Church

St. John’s Church will host a series of farmers markets this summer. The first is scheduled for today, Thursday, June 29.

Today's farmers market will feature 34 vendors, and also feature live music from the Emmett Van Leer Trio. Organizers will also have kids activities.

The Barrington Farm School the signature farm for each market.

Sponsored by the Barrington Business and Community Association, the farmers markets will take place on five Thursday afternoons — June 29, July 13 and 27, and Aug. 10 and 24. They run from 4 to 7 p.m. each day.

The BBCA farmers markets started last summer and hosted a wide variety of vendors.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
