Two boats were stolen from their docks in Barrington last week, and a third was nearly stolen, said police.
A Mathewson Road resident called police at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3 and reported that his 17-foot Bayliner was missing from his dock. The resident also told police he could see footprints on the dock. According to the police dispatch log, the resident also noticed that someone had rummaged through a second boat tied up to the dock.
Barrington PD contacted East Providence, Warren and Bristol Police about the incident. A short time later, the boat was located on Barton Avenue.
At 7:30 the next morning, a Harbour Road resident called police to report that his boat, a 14-foot inflatable, had been stolen. Again, Barrington Police notified surrounding departments and again, the boat was located a short time later. The inflatable was found tied up near the wastewater treatment plant in Warren, which is located near the mouth of the Warren River.
At about 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a third Barrington resident contacted police regarding a boat-related incident. The Mathewson Road resident told police it appeared someone had tried to steal his boat. The resident checked his doorbell camera and found footage that showed a man on the boat.
Police are still investigating the larcenies and attempted larceny.
In a separate incident, a Nayatt Road resident contacted police on Wednesday, Sept. 4, after finding a Jetski abandoned in the water off the beach near Rhode Island Country Club.
The Barrington Habormaster responded to the scene and located the Jetski. Police traced the vessel to a Sturbridge, Mass. resident. Police are trying to contact the individual. Police said there were no reports of distressed boaters in the area.
