Where can you buy a chance at a dream for only $25, and support local food pantries at the same time?
On Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Bristol Rotary announced their latest fundraising effort: Dinner for two, anywhere in the world! Winners will get two round trip tickets, hotel accommodations, and dinner at the restaurant of their choice, a value up to $10,000. Travel arrangements will be provided by AtlantiVacations.
“This gives us the opportunity to come together as a community to support those in need,” said Rotary President Mary Jo Fidalgo-Tavares. “In partnership with the East Bay food pantry and Friends of Saint Elizabeth's Food Bank, proceeds from this fundraiser will directly benefit families right here in the East Bay who face food insecurity from rising and costs and limited resources…The Rotary’s mission has always been service above self and we are committed to making a difference where it counts most — at home.”
“I would just like to thank the rotary very much for the generous donation that we're going to receive, that's going to help a lot of people,” said Rosemary Oliveira of the Friends of St. Elizabeth’s Food Pantry. “We have a lot of people using the food pantry and we also have a program that helps people in need that can't pay their bills…this will help with that also. We are very appreciative that you thought about us in all this and we thank you very much.”
“We serve all of the East Bay from East Providence to Newport and Little Compton and residency in the East Bay is the only criteria,” said Emily Mushen, Executive Director of the East Bay Food Pantry, which serves about 1,200 local families a month. “We continue to see high levels of participation in our food programs.”
Mushen said that 2024 is on track to be the pantry’s busiest year in its 15-year history.
“That's why we are so so grateful to be selected as a beneficiary of this phenomenal fundraising effort,” Mushen said. “So thank you so much to the rotary and to everyone participating buy tickets.”
Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at bristolrotaryclub.com, by calling 401-481-2368, or from any Rotary member.
