EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School softball team opened this week’s Division I action with a 6-2 win over Cranston West Monday, June 7, keeping the playoff aspirations for the Townies intact as they approached the end of the regular season.
Vianna Chamberlin opened the scoring for the locals against West, cracking a solo homer. Later, Darien Kane drove in Sophie Patterson and Josley Sosa with a double to give E.P. the lead.
The Townies then added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory. Chamberlin and Ava Mendence singled. Patterson reached on an error, plating Chamberlin. Mendence scored on an infield single by Sosa. And Patterson came around on a single by Keira Quadros, who was the winning pitcher for the Townies. She finished the day with eight strikeouts.
East Providence’s modest two-game winning streak ended Tuesday, June 8, when visiting Moses Brown defeated the locals, 8-1. The Quakers scored three times in the three times in the top of the second inning then broke the game open with five in the sixth.
The lost left the Townies with a 4-7 record in D-I games.
