EAST PROVIDENCE — The city's two entrants into the Ron Silva/Minor Baseball Division District 2 All-Star Tournament won again in games played Sunday night, July 14.

EP Central, which lost its opener to Warren then beat Little Compton/Tiverton, stayed alive in the event once again with a 14-12 victory Portsmouth. The locals had eight hits, 19 stolen base and drew 13 walks.

Anders Fiske had a great time at the plate with two hits, a double and a triple, while driving in three. Second baseman Harrison Hogan accounted for the third and final out of the game after Portsmouth loaded the bases. Hogan fielded a base hit just into outfield, then beat the runner to the bag for the force.

Rumford, which also beat Portsmouth in its tourney opener earlier last week, hosted Warren at the Rock Complex Sunday evening, blasting the visitors by a 14-0 count.

Starting pitcher Charlie Costantino threw a no-hitter, strikeouts accounting for nine of the 12 outs he recorded. He 1-2-3 innings in the top of the second and fourth, the latter striking out the side to not only end the frame by the game via the 10-Run Rule. He walked only two and all three balls put in play were fielded cleanly, in the infield and ended in putouts.

On offense, Rumford scored the per-inning max of five runs in the bottom of the first, which included RBI hits from Cal Connolly, Kinston Deleon-Spitalieri and Jack McBurney. The locals repeated the effort in the second as Deleon- Spitalieri tripled with the bases loaded to account for three of the runs. The hosts then added in the bottom of the third including, two on a single by Costantino.

Rumford again ran wild on the bases, stealing 25 with six of home. Every player reached base at least once, and eight of the 10 locals scored at least one run in the game.

Rumford next plays Barrington at Sherwood Field on Saturday, July 20, at 5:45 p.m. in the winners' bracket final. EP Central travels to Middletown and the Aquidneck School Field on Friday, July 19, in the losers' bracket semifinals also at 5:45 p.m.
