PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Patriots girls’ soccer team will play in the R.I. Division II state championship game on Saturday after shutting out Ponaganset, 5-0, in the semifinals in East Greenwich Wednesday night.

Mollyana McGuire scored three of her team’s five goals in the route, which advanced the No. 2-seeded Patriots to face Burrillville at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cranston Stadium, 23 Jordan Ave., Cranston. (Note: This is a new game time.)

Burrillville and Portsmouth played to a 1-1 draw during the regular season. The Broncos, the No. 5 seed, were upset winners over top-seeded and undefeated Moses Brown in their semifinal game.

On Wednesday, Kaitlin Roche added two goals of her own for the Patriots, and goalkeeper Emily Maiato made eight saves. Abby Costa had three assists.
