New MetLinks officially opens for play on June 27

Former Metacomet Country Club front nine is re-envisioned

EAST PROVIDENCE — MetLinks, the nine-hole re-envisioned former front side of the defunct Metacomet Country Club, will officially open to the public on Thursday, June 27.

The first tee time will be at 6:30 a.m. In-season tee times will be available 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting. Booking will open on Thursday, June 20.

Players can book directly online at MetLinksGolf.com or by calling the pro-shop 401-414-7337.

The course will offer a varied grand opening rates schedule for the East Providence residents, seniors/military, juniors and the general public as follows:

General public — Weekday (Mon - Thurs): 9 Holes, $32; 18 Holes, $44; Cart (9/18 holes), $14/$20; Weekend (Fri - Sun): 9 Holes, $35; 18 Holes, $46; Cart (9/18 holes), $14/$20

East Providence residents (East Providence resident discount applied at check-in with proof of residency) — Weekday (Mon - Thurs): 9 Holes, $30; 18 Holes, $42; Cart (9/18 holes), $14/$20; Weekend (Fri - Sun): 9 Holes, $33; 18 Holes, $44; Cart (9/18 holes), $14/$20

Seniors/military (Senior discount applied at check-in for players 65 and over) — Weekday (Mon - Thurs): 9 Holes, $30; 18 Holes, $42; Cart (9/18 holes), $14/$20; Weekend (Fri - Sun): 9 Holes, $33; 18 Holes, $44; Cart (9/18 holes), $14/$20

Juniors (14 years and under) — Daily (walking): 9 Holes, $25; 18 Holes, $35; Cart (9/18 holes), $14/$20.

The renovation of MetLinks was done over the last some 24 months by the local golf course architectural firm The Northeast Golf Company, owned and operated by Rhode Island native Robert McNeil. The original course itself was redesigned by the famed architect Donald Ross in the mid-1920s.

The Northeast Golf Company is also running operations of the new MetLinks.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
