Rams score in final minute after winning face-off

PORTSMOUTH — It couldn’t have been any closer.

The Portsmouth High girls’ lacrosse team battled as hard as they could, but La Salle scored just one more goal to win an epic Division I semifinal match last Thursday, May 30, in Cranston Stadium.

The Patriots were up 6-1 at one point, but that lead was quickly erased when La Salle caught up quickly, all on penalty shots, before taking a comfortable lead.

Portsmouth never gave up, however, and battled back to tie the game at 13 with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter.

The Rams won the final face-off, however, and scored to send them to the championship game. La Salle ended up losing to Moses Brown on Sunday in the title game, 16-6.
