PORTSMOUTH — This is the way it should be — the No. 1 and 2 seeds playing for all the marbles in the state championship game.
The Patriots girls’ varsity soccer team (No. 2) will face the Scituate Spartans (No. 1) in the Division II title matchup at Rhode Island College at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Portsmouth (12-3-1) defeated Lincoln (11-4-2) in the semifinals held at Johnston High School Wednesday night in a shootout, 4-3, after the score was tied at a goal apiece at the end of regulation.
Scituate won its semifinal match Wednesday against Prout in similar fashion — with a 1-0 shootout following a scoreless tie.
In their only previous meeting this season, Scituate (12-2-2) beat the Patriots, 4-1, on Sept. 26 in Portsmouth.
