PORTSMOUTH — Everything seems to be clicking right now for the Portsmouth High School softball team, which is on a four-game win streak.

The Division II squad hasn’t lost since April 25, when it dropped a 10-7 decision to Mt. Hope.

Since then, the Patriots have beaten Woonsocket (9-0), Toll Gate (13-2), Barrington (12-1) and Narragansett (7-3), outscoring their opponents 41-6.

At home against Barrington on Tuesday, May 7, starting pitcher Mia Ruggieri struck out six batters over four innings, giving up just one earned run. She was just as impressive at the plate, scoring three runs and getting on base three times.

Barbara Rainey went 3-for-4 with two RBI, a run, and a triple.

Maggie Lauder went 2-for-3 and scored a run.

On the road against Narragansett on Friday, Mary Rainer struck out six batters over seven innings, giving up just one earned run off five hits. She notched two RBI and a double at the plate.

Megan Malone got on base three times, scoring a run and stealing a base. Kaelyn Mahoney scored two runs.

Portsmouth is now 7-4 in the conference and 8-4 overall.

The Patriots will be tested when they host Ponaganset on Monday, May 13. The Chieftains sit atop Division II with a 9-0 record in the conference and 10-1 overall.

The team will host West Warwick on Wednesday, May 15, before traveling to Middletown on Monday, May 20.
