Man charged with distributing fentanyl within Portsmouth
50 pills were found in a compartment on his motorcycle, police said
PORTSMOUTH — A 47-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested Thursday, June 16, and charged with distributing fentanyl within Portsmouth, police said.
This month, members of the Portsmouth Police Detective Division developed information regarding the illegal distribution of fentanyl in town, according to police. A subsequent investigation identified Ryan Walsh of Norton, Mass. as the suspect, police said.
At about 6:30 p.m. on June 16, Walsh was stopped for a traffic
violation on his motorcycle as he entered Portsmouth. With the assistance of the Middletown Police canine officer, 50 pills suspected to contact fentanyl were located in a compartment on the motorcycle, police said.
Walsh was arrested and charged with manufacture/possession/delivery of Schedule I/II narcotics and held overnight at the police station.
He was later arraigned at the 2nd Division Courthouse in Newport and is being held at the Anthony P. Travisono Intake Service Center until his next court appearance, police said.
