The Firemen’s Muster was held last Sunday, July 17 in Independence Park, when firefighters from Bristol’s four fire stations—Dreadnaught, Defiance, Hydraulion and Ever-Ready—competed in a series of challenges from noon to 2 p.m., joined for the first time by a team from the town’s Emergency Services Division.
The events consisted of a series of timed battles between the different stations, including tug-of-war and the dry hose event.
“The EMS division did very well, for people with no firefighting experience,” said Battalion Chief Joe Vieira. “We hope they will join us again next year. It was a great day of camaraderie and healthy competition.”
“For the first time in recent memory it ended in a tie between the Dreadnauts and Defiance,” said Paul Vollaro, a retired member of the Department who serves as the chairman on the committee that organizes the Muster. “It came down to a tiebreaker tug-of-war and the Dreadnaughts won overall.”
“It was a great day, and a nice crowd came out to cheer everyone on.”
