City sides start Silva Minor Baseball All-Star tourney

Over the weekend, the Ron Silva Minor Baseball Division District 2 Little League All-Star tourney, named in honor of the long-time Riverside and district contributor, began with one of the two local entries getting started as the East Providence Central squad dropped a 13-10 decision to Warren on the road Saturday night, June 29.

EP Central was next set to play at home against Little Compton Tuesday night, July 2. The EP Central team roster included Harrison Hogan, Jacob Campano, Janhzell Lacen, Rocco Quattrucci, Sylis Baldwin, Armani Serapiglia, Gabriel Noriega, Rowan Perry, Connor Sullivan, Reyneill Pereyra, Jayceon Briggs amd Anders Fiske. Richard Hogan is the manager with Tom Turner and Mitch Baldwin the coaches.

The other local, Rumford, was slated to start its Silva slate Tuesday night, July 2, in Portsmouth. The Rumford team roster included Elijah Cabral, Landon Melo, Cal Connolly, Andrew Mitchell, Charlie Costantino, Owen O'Reilly, Kingston Deleon-Spitaleri, Finn Park-Schoener, Mason Ferreira, Lucia Pedroso-Jones, Jack McBurney V and Gabe Yaffe. John McBurney is the manager with coaches Evan Costantino, Shaun Jones, Kiel Mitchell, Mike Ferreira and Dave Melo.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
