Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: I am a parent of two in the district, and a software engineer with over 15 years experience. I am running to improve the technology platforms that our children use, helping students, teachers, and parents navigate between various learning models. I will bring an even-keep disposition to school committee, and as a political newcomer I will listen to all points of view before forming a position.

I have run the Coding Club at KMS for the past two years, teaching kids software concepts and giving them the chance to tinker with hardware that they don't see in their day-to-day education. I want to bolster our kids' STEM curriculum, to get them ready to meet our current challenges.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
