Nichola (Nicky) Piper

Warren

Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: I have three children, one at each level of the BWRSD. In this role, I have spent many hours volunteering for PTOs, in the classroom, school libraries, and assisting with external grant applications.

I have volunteered on the Board of the Bristol Warren Education Foundation (BWEF) for many years, chairing the Board for the last four. I work for a national education non-profit (NAATE), focusing on closing the achievement gap through an intensive, advanced program of study for teachers and school leaders from high-need schools across the country.

I believe that my tested and proven leadership in our community, combined with the knowledge and experience I have garnered through my work, is exactly what our district needs to best serve all of our students in these unusual times. I am looking forward to meeting as many of the people of Warren as possible over the next few weeks, to listen to concerns and questions, and share my plan for this district with such great potential.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
